Believing in God is a clear and rational matter. It is part of our original nature, our Fitrah. And sometimes we get a good feeling when remembering God. But how come we forget this simple fact? Why do we not remain in this sanctuary?
What Shaytan does, is to instill doubt and anxiety in me. This is basically what human and jinn devils do. Indeed, forgetting and losing sight of God is one of the biggest threats I face in this world.
In verse 41 of surah Fussilat, God says إِنَّ الَّذِينَ قَالُوا رَبُّنَا اللَّهُ ثُمَّ اسْتَقَامُوا those who have said, ‘Our Lord is Allah’ and then remained steadfast. Difficult, isn’t it? But God has made things simple.
upon them the angels will descend [saying], ‘Do not fear nor grieve, but rejoice in [this] good news about the Paradise that you have been promised!
The reality of this ayah are the Ahl ul-Bayt(a), but they themselves have said that it is also a description of their followers. Yes, those followers who remain loyal and steadfast to their belief, will be harassed, ridiculed and threatened so that they would leave the sanctuary of believing in God and following Ahl ul-Bayt(a). God’s patronage, embodied in the Prophet and Ahl ul-Bayt(a), is the stronghold, the refuge. It is peace, security and felicity.
Then the verse continues,
We are your protecting friends [and patrons] during the worldly life and in the Hereafter
Do not let anyone make you believe that this patronage is only good for the afterlife. We are your patrons in this world and in the afterlife. We will take care of you. We will protect you from harm. If you take refuge with us, we will even protect your belief and religion.
Then God says, you shall have whatever your souls desire in it (Paradise), as well as whatever you ask for,
The day will come when all these troubles will come to an end. You will achieve whatever your heart desires, whatever you had been promised.
But remember, this is all a blessing from the One [who is] All-forgiving, All-merciful. It’s not something we deserve or have earned.
Everyone in this world is looking for a safe haven.
God has created that refuge, but when you want to stay there,
Shaytan will not let you. He wants to take us out of it
.
Insha’Allah God will help us always remember Him and never leave the sanctuary of His patronage.
