Episode 17

Feeling overwhelmed sometimes? The Prophets felt so too! Verses 21:83 and 21:84 shatter the myth that God's chosen ones have easy lives. We'll see how His messengers, like Ayoub (Job) and Nuh (Noah), faced immense hardship despite their closeness to God.  In addition to being reminded of why God's messengers experience difficulties, we will also see where we can find true refuge during challenges, and how the prophets' p.rayers can guide us in seeking refuge with God.

بسم‌الله الرحمن الرحیم
Some of the verses of the Holy Quran   portray how God’s chosen ones, his messengers, plead with Him, how they raise   their arms in prayers and beg Him to help them. Why would God tell us these   things?
God wants to say, do not for one moment   think that there are certain people in this world, His favourites so to   speak, who experience no troubles. God says, look, these are my messengers.   They are dear to me, and they are pure. But in fact, they face more troubles   and difficulties than anyone. That is of course because God’s enemies create   these hardships; They beat up and ridiculed the prophet Nuh, and did the same   with Ayoub (pbu them both).
In verses 83 and 84 of surat el-Anbiyā,   Ayoub appeals to God: إِذْ نَادَى رَبَّهُ أَنِّي مَسَّنِيَ الضُّرُّ. “that: ‘Adversity has afflicted me …” God, I am afflicted with hardship and I   am helpless. “And You are the most Merciful …!” - وَأَنتَ أَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِينَ. Verse   76 of this same sura recounts how it was the same for Nuh: و نوحاً إذ نادی من قبل. Nuh too had called out to   his Lord.
Then God says, regarding Ayoub, “We   answered his prayers and removed the adversity he was facing …” and for Nuh, God   says, “We saved him and his companions from the great distress.”
These verses tell us that hardship is for   everyone. Now the question is …
Where do you turn to?
Where do you seek refuge?
On whom do you pin your   hopes?
Indeed, the messengers’ distinction is in   the fact that, however much they experience grief and hardship, they only   plead with God, no one else. Therefore God says I will give you refuge, come   to me. All you have to do is to call out to Me. But with honesty and sincerity.
When I face adversity, I   should call out to God from the bottom of my heart. No pretending, no playing   tricks (like the munafighun - the imposters). Call out to God, and you will find His refuge.
