بسم‌الله الرحمن الرحیم
Sometimes we hear people say things that are in no way justifiable. We encounter certain thoughts and attitudes, and wonder how could someone get to this point
Does it make any sense to behave rudely towards someone who has helped and provided for you? Can you imagine being skeptical about someone who has always prioritized you over themselves? Or to avoid and flee from someone who is always concerned about you and protective of you? This is indeed very strange.
But even stranger is the fact that these kinds of thoughts and attitudes actually exist. We’ve sometimes seen young people who have this attitude towards their parents, the same parents whose whole lives are dedicated to attending to their children.
But there is still something even stranger, and that is, that even those who are grown-ups sometimes behave this way towards God. They view God’s instructions and His messages for them to be inconveniences.
When a child is told to show gratitude to   their parents, to not ignore their kindness, they are also told that this is   for their own good. Their parents do not need their gratitude.
In verse 7 of surat el-Zumur, God says He does not approve of ingratitude among His   worshippers. وَلَا يَرْضَى لِعِبَادِهِ   الْكُفْرَ  He   then says, however, if you are grateful, He will approve of your gratitude.
وَإِن تَشْكُرُوا يَرْضَهُ لَكُمْ
For you. God doesn’t need it. He says at the beginning of this verse, If you disbelieve [and are ungrateful], Allah has no need for you. In two places of the Quran, God says that   the one who is grateful, is in fact doing this for themselves, فَإنّما یَشکُرُ لِنَفسِهِ
Why do you think showing gratitude is good for me? You see, the person who sees and understands their parents’ love and kindness,
the person who senses what   God has done for them in terms of blessings and support,
this person will gradually feel assured that there is someone compassionate carefully
 protecting them.
There is someone who supports me even though He doesn’t need me.
But the one who is skeptical about his or her parents will live miserably. The one who is skeptical about God and His messenger and His religion, is actually rendering themself shelterless and alone. For these are all signs of God’s support, kindness and attention.
